Read some of the responses from students who have completed the programme:
“The past two weeks at Generating Genius have been a great experience for me. I have deepened my passion for science, and learned more about myself as a young genius. Although the course has been very challenging I have enjoyed every moment of it, from building lego mind storms at QMUL and learning more about Africa and how railways could benefit the African nation (soas). I fell very proud to be part of this course and I’m very thankful for this opportunity, and cannot wait for our next session.” Jeziah
“These past few days have been amazing. I have learnt many new things and have been able to explore different things in science. From computer science to magic tricks and also building trains. but i have also learnt many other things such as poverty and learning about Africa.at generating genius we have had very good group discussions where we are able to say our opinions and share facts and our knowledge with one another. This has been a great experience; it has been lots and lots of fun but also a source of major knowledge. I have made new friends and learnt new skills and cannot wait to do more on this programme. I have won one and want to win again!” Dominic
“I feel the past two weeks at generating genius has been a challenging and wonderful experience. I have done things that i have never done before and been put out of my comfort zone. We built lego mind storm Robots which i found to be a difficult yet extremely worthwhile challenge. I really do enjoy this programme and how it recognizes mine and everyone’s passion for science and challenges us in a variety of different ways. It is truly an honour to be proud of such an exceptional course.” Dwayne
“When i first went to Queens Mary University i taught that they were going to give me some really hard tasks to accomplish. But then i was mistaken and the work was just at the right level for me. I really enjoyed making robots and learning magic tricks. I also had fun making traffic lights. Yesterday when i reached SOAS i taught that nothing was going to change, but i ended up having more fun at SOAS than Queens Marry. Making the trains and train tracks were a lot of fun making stuff for Africa as well as making it more developed.” Adam
“At Generating Genius on the first week at Queen Mary’s University, we first had a long lecture about artificial intelligence and what we thought it was to me it was a bit boring but I learnt from it, we then got on to building robots at first but later in the week we made them find people and be able to go up slopes and we also made them play football, we also learnt how computer science is linked to magic tricks through algorithms and we also made traffic lights from L.E.D lights and switches that we made that was very interesting. At the end we made a presentation about what we had done during that week and my group’s presentation won prizes. The week was very interesting and I learnt a lot from it. This week we are at SOAS University, first we made railways and trains that went back and forth on them, it was fun and I learnt how to make a model train and the next day we had a lecture about West Africa and we then made presentations about how railways could help those countries in many ways. The week was very interesting.” David
“I’ve enjoyed the generating genius program so far, when i first step foot at Queen Marys college i thought i was in for an extra 7 days of school during that half term but after the first day i realized this was nothing like school. Everything was really exciting and we learned about things we would have never even been taught the slightest bit about at school. Some parts i found more interesting than others like the learning about algorithms in the form of card magic tricks. Some of the long lectures i found a bit boring but they had lots of useful information in them which when i looked back on didn’t seem as boring as i thought. So far the program has been great, I’ve mingled with new people from other schools i never even knew existed and learnt a whole load more in these past few days then i learn in a week or more at school. Overall i think this program is really good and will give me a helping hand on getting into a really good university. I know this program is very expensive so i need to concentrate and work to my fool potential so i can gain as much as possible from this program. ” Nathaniel
“My Experience over the past two days has been very educational. On the first day we started to build models of trains and we had to make a complete circuit to power the train. We were going to get to attach solar panels to add power through the sun but we didn’t get to that although i know that if we had gotten to that part, not only would it have been educational but it would have been very fun too. Today (the second day) we created PowerPoint presentations and i liked it because it helped me realize that Trains can help different countries and different parts of countries in a very significant way. Thank you for accepting me into this programme as it has helped me a lot and i am sure it will help me in time to com.” Paul
